Lithium Polymer batteries have entered a new phase with high current packs becoming readily available. Now you can draw big amps from LiPo packs. Presented here are some of the Hyperion 35C/ 65C packs currently in stock and suitable for the new rules for Limited Electric Glider competition (replacing the old 7-cell electric glider rules). These packs will deliver 35C constantly, or 65C for short periods up to 20 seconds. Most motor runs in the LEG competition are 6 seconds or less, so do not stress these amazing packs - they don't even seem to get warm!

The LEG competition rules now allow any LiPo of which the product of the number of cells times the milliamp capacity comes to 6600 or less. 6600 is effectively a power limit. These packs fit the bill:

LG335-1100/2S:
suitable for small competition gliders - save lots of weight - this pack has a low weightg - I saved nearly 100g in my Sky Sergio and the climb was significantly better because of it - capable of up to 70A - considerably less than the maximum 6600 power limit (2 x 1100 = 2200) - cost $29

LG335-1800/2S:
suitable for larger gliders where you need to draw up to 110A and you want to keep the weight down - the current delivering capacity is 1.8 x 65 = 117A and the power factor is 2 x 1800 = 3600 - low weight and costs $44

LG335-1800/3S:
also suitable for larger gliders where you need to draw up to 110A and you want to keep the weight down - the current delivering capacity is 1.8 x 65 = 117A and the power factor is 3 x 1800 = 5400 - Steve Mutch has had success with this pack in his Bingo - low weight and costs $62

LG335-3300/2S:
This is the largest pack in the range that can be used with 2S - power factor is 2 x 3300 = 6600 - current capability is very high at 210A - low weight and costs $75

LG335-2200/3S:
this pack will suit you if you want to take advantage of a 3S pack - power factor is 3 x 2200 = 6600 - current delivering capability is 2.2 x 65 = 143A - ideal for lower current draw but high Watts output (100A at 11.1V = 1110W) - low weight and costs $70

New - for the first time, you can use two Hyperion 2S packs in series and make 4S and still be within the LEG power limits:

LG335-1600-2S:
a 4S pack of these cells (made up of two 2S packs in series) has a power factor of 4 x 1600 = 6400, which is within LEG limits but can still deliver up to 104A. A current draw of 100A at 4S gives up to 1350W power output - worth a try! The packs are small and light and cost only $39 each. I tried these in my 3.2m Pulsar and was impressed with the result.

LG345-1100-6S: amazing new cells capable of 90C bursts - can deliver up to 99A - power output at this level is a staggering 2000W!!! Reprop your LEG machine and give them a go - only 191g and $82.

LG345-2200-3S: new cells capable of 90A bursts - that means 198A capability - 196g weight and $82.

LG345-3300-2S: new cells capable of 90A bursts - that means 297A capability - 196g weight - not yet available - watch for announcement!
