Add a gearbox to your electric motor and you will be able to swing a much larger propeller more efficiently and gain an increase in torque. Originally this strategy was used for sports and cabin aircraft, where a large and less streamlined aircraft required continuous running of the motor during flight (lower current draw with a gearbox means longer motor runs). It was also used for larger electric gliders to obtain the efficiency to power a large and heavy aircraft.
Lately the strategy has been used with high performance motors, allowing a large diameter propeller which also has a large amount of pitch (remember, prop diameter gives you torque, prop pitch gives you speed). That way, vertical climbs at amazing speeds are possible. Following is a range of gearboxes for a range of purposes:
