| Multiplex have learned a great deal from their highly successful range of Elapor gliders - particularly the Fox, Easy Electric Glider and Cularis. The popularity of the tiny Fox for conversion to electric and radio control has inspired the Merlin - a small electric glider that is beautifully engineered. Mike Nott reviewed the Merlin in the January 2010 QEFI magazine - he said: "A great amount of effort has gone in to the design and engineering of this model...... This is a very quick and agile model...... At full throttle (using the MPX power pack) the model leapt in to a near vertical climb...... The Merlin is responsive and cries out for aerobatics...... However innocuous the Merlin may look, it is not for beginners..... you need aileron experience.... Not particularly cheap, but you get quality, performance and fun!" Controls are ailerons (two servos), elevator, rudder and throttle. Sub-micro servos like the Hitec HS-55, JR-375 or the Dymond D60 are recommended. The Scorpion 2212-1070 would be an ideal motor, coupled to an LG325-450-3S LiPo, and then you could use a lightweight Hifei 20A ESC. If you want a lively glider that is not too big, that will easily fit in to your car fully assembled and will give you aerobatic or slope soaring pleasure, this is the one for you.
