Lithium Polymer cells are one of the biggest breakthroughs in electric flight of recent times. High capacity and light weight are the big gains. One of the problems is that one must keep the cells in a LiPo pack balanced. This little device will help you do that, and make sure that your cells remain healthy and last for as long as possible.

The Hyperion LBA10 (stands for Lithium Balance Adaptor, 10A maximum) has replaced the LBA6, and will balance packs of 2S (two LiPo cells in series) up to 6S (6 cells in series). Your packs need to have a multi-connector like those fitted to the balancer (and quite a few brands do have this connector already fitted - Hyperion LiPo packs of course, and PolyQuest and E-Tec as well), and the cells must be 3.7V cells. Hyperion have now produced adaptor boards to match this balancer to most brands of LiPo batteries - click this link to see the board that matches your packs,

You can use the balancer as stand alone - that is, without a charger or discharger device. You simply connect the balancer to your pack with the required multi-connector (2S & 3S are supplied with the unit, or the adaptor board that matches your packs) and go through the balancing process. The LAB10 balancer will discharge the highest charged cells until they are within 5mV of each other, and then turn off.

The balancer can also be used in line with a charger during charging, or with a discharger during discharge, as long as either the charge current or discharge load does not exceed 10A.

And there is more - network two of these balancing units and you can balance up to 12S packs - no need to split them and do them separately any more.

So, how much does it cost for a tricky device like this, and peace of mind with your LiPo packs - only $55 (new, low price posted 7-6-08). Better order one today!
